Here's a bit of historical reading ( in fact, a very early testimonial from the fall of 1937 ) talking about AGA Baltic testing out the new Shearer Horn system ( at the Palladium Cinema in Stockholm ) .

Fascinating stuff this ( at least to me ).

From the looks of it / AGA copied Stephens Trusonic or RCA ( more so than Lansing ) .

Ah, the Palladium cinema. It was one of the best. I used to go there a lot in the old days. Nowadays it's a casino.

Your first picture I have seen in Swedish trade mags circa 1946. The Shearer horn and the Lansing Monitor 500A are still there but the Iconic is gone. The smallest speaker seems to be an AGA-Baltic design, but still with the H808 horn. In the late thirties the AGA-Baltic speakers were pure Lansing designs, but during WWII AGA-Baltic probably had to fend for themselves and do their own designs with influences from other manufacturers. I am very interested in the AGA-Baltic company, but information is not easy to find, even in Sweden. I am planning to do what research I can and I'll report my findings on this forum in due course. The fifth picture shows EXACTLY how my horns look. I only wish I had the adapter shown in the sixth picture.

There is a more or less perpetual discussion of half roll vs. tangential suspensions for compression drivers. The half rolls tend to be a bit less extended, though possibly cleaner sounding than the tangentials, which tend to be more extended at the cost of a "tsss tsss" tizz on top.

The study of all this prewar sound gear is great fun. When I started researching it over twenty years a go a few original participants were still kickin', but they are all gone now. The late John Eargle of JBL had it better, as he was hired as a consultant to write a JBL corporate history in the late 1970s, when quite a few of the important folks were still available for interview.

Hey, I was diving into some old-school audio discussions and stumbled on this thread while looking for something practical for my own setup in India. I ended up trying out an astronaut demo to experiment with different sound profiles and tweaks. Initially, my adjustments didn’t go as planned, but after a bit of trial and error, I managed to get a much clearer output that actually made the prewar gear comparisons meaningful. It’s become my go-to way to test setups before committing to bigger purchases, and it really helps me understand the nuances.
